The anti-magnetic scientist's watch with a green-tinted sapphire crystal, killed off in 2023 with no successor.
Discontinued one-offs with no replacement are the classic Rolex appreciation setup, and it is playing out.
Built in 1956 for CERN scientists, the Milgauss shrugs off magnetic fields that would stop an ordinary watch, 'mille gauss', a thousand gauss. The GV's green-tinted sapphire crystal, 'Glace Verte', was so hard to make Rolex claimed competitors couldn't copy it. None did.
The orange lightning-bolt seconds hand is the single most playful thing Rolex has shipped in decades. Discontinued in 2023 with no successor, and discontinued weird Rolexes are where cults come from.
Our verdict: Buy-and-wait candidate. An orphaned model line with a lightning bolt seconds hand; scarcity does the rest.
