A professional 1,220m diver that trades at or slightly under retail: too big for some wrists, overshadowed by the Submariner.
The red-line dial nods to the 1967 original, which vintage collectors pay real money for.
The Sea-Dweller was co-developed with French commercial diving firm COMEX in the 1960s, whose saturation divers kept blowing crystals off decompressing watches until Rolex invented the helium escape valve.
This 43mm anniversary model brought back the red SEA-DWELLER dial text from 1967 and added, for the first time in the model's history, a cyclops over the date. Purists wrote angry forum posts; everyone else just read the date more easily.
Our verdict: Wearer's watch. Expect roughly break-even resale, which by luxury standards is still a win.
