Rolex's most complicated watch: annual calendar plus dual time, set through the fluted Ring Command bezel.
Steel versions stay waitlisted and hold a 20 to 30 percent premium; precious metal versions do not.
The Sky-Dweller is the most complicated watch Rolex makes: annual calendar, dual time via the off-center 24-hour ring, all set through the trick 'Ring Command' fluted bezel that doubles as a function selector. Fourteen patents went into it.
It launched in 2012 in precious metal only and nobody cared. The 2017 steel version turned it into a waitlist watch overnight, proof that in the Rolex economy the metal matters more than the mechanism.
Our verdict: The thinking collector's premium piece. Stick to steel on the Jubilee for resale strength.
