The story

This is the same 3861 Moonwatch as the hesalite model, fitted with a domed sapphire crystal and a sapphire display caseback.

The caseback shows the 3861 movement, which is why collectors call it the sapphire sandwich.

Some purists prefer hesalite for its flight heritage, while others choose sapphire for scratch resistance.

It costs more new but holds a slightly lower percentage of retail pre-owned..

Our verdict: Same watch, nicer crystal and display back, and it keeps a slightly bigger share of its retail than the Hesalite. Buy pre-owned and let the first owner eat the drop.
