The story

This was the last Moonwatch reference with the 1861 movement before the 2021 switch to the 3861.

The 1861 descends from the Lemania-based 861 used since 1968.

Many buyers prefer it for its traditional movement and lower price than the current model.

Rising retail on the 3861 has supported its pre-owned value..

Our verdict: The pre-2021 Moonwatch with the 1861 movement. It costs about two thirds of a new one and holds value well, which makes it the smart-money entry to the Speedmaster.
