Sixteen years of the first in-house Daytona, with the steel bezel the ceramic era abandoned. The last 'honest tool' Daytona look.
More than doubled its final retail and holds a floor collectors defend.
The first in-house Daytona: Rolex's own 4130 replaced the Zenith movement in 2000 and ran 16 years, the longest single steel Daytona generation of the modern era. The 'APH' dial error and cream-aging early dials are the collector trapdoors.
It spent years as 'the cheap ceramic-era-adjacent Daytona' before the 2020s repriced every steel Daytona at once. Still the value door into the modern Daytona club, with the thickest supply and the gentlest premiums.
Our verdict: The classic steel Daytona without ceramic-era pricing. Liquid, loved, done appreciating fast but never falling far.
